All 54 African countries put together have registered fewer Covid deaths than France. That doesn’t mean people aren’t dying from the virus.

Partly I agree with them. I rem when we were applying for Helb sometimes back, my fren had to seek a letter from chief saying he has no parents. Coz there was nothing like death cert that was available. That said, 16000 covid deaths in Khartoum instead of 477 official figures look a bit far fetched. I would vouch that Covid deaths are highly under reported. Probably official numbers could be multiples of what is reported by Kagwe.

-The late landfall of the virus on the continent gave the populations of Africa time to have learnt and adopted personal protective measures
-The population dynamics in Africa (90 pc rural) worked against the fast spread of the virus compared to say France (80 pc urban) and living in close quarters.
-Timing- The virus hit Europe when immunities are naturally low (winter)
-Sunshine- Africa has plenty of this and it is important in the formation of vitamin D which strengthens immunity resilience.
- Diet - More natural than processed in Africa's leading to comparatively fewer underlying conditions...
...and so on. I think our (Kenya) numbers may not be grossly underreported as such.

They attempt to link to deprivation but it doesn't add up because as we know their living conditions would be considered luxury in some parts of the continent.

Makes sense, alternatively the deaths in those western countries could also not be accurate as they suggest.
Unless you were diagnosed with covid prior to dying, most people don't get tested after dying.

Another vital one is africa has a bigger young population than Europe and Asia, around 60% are below 35yrs old, coupled with a more natural diet and fitter population we were primed to fare well

On reporting, no doubt our actual cases are higher than reported since we test symptomatic patients only, an antibody test of a sample of the population would be useful to prove or disprove this assertion
