Let me tell you guys, hii kitu imeniuma sana.
What is happening across Africa is, European conglomerates come up with looting schemes in cahoots with local elite. They draw up very loopsided contracts, and start bleeding us dry. This is what Magufuli was fighting, and it could prolly have cost him his life.
In Kenya, the looting by wazunguz is going on like crazy in the energy sector, conservation, agriculture (Unilever), telecommunications (Safaricom) and manufacturing (EABL). IPPS like LTWPs and diesel power generators alone are looting an estimated $1 billion from this economy EACH YEAR.
For the longest Safaricom would pay 'royalties' to Vodafone of $30 million in a crazy scam to reduce local taxes and repatriate money. They still have weird tax evasion schemes.
I won't even talk about the agricultural corporations that report loss after loss year in year out as they sell our tea and coffee to themselves in Europe.
The net result of all this looting is that as many of us (NOT ALL) work harder, we stay in the same place because our wealth is only enriching a very small corrupt local elite and leeches in London, Paris and Washington. This looting by foreigners is among the leading causes of poverty in our country, the others being unsustainable population growth and little economic production by huge sections of the population (coastals, Pokots, Turkana, Somalis, etc).,
Any government that will deal with these three issues - looting by foreign corporations, over-population and lack of productivity - will see this economy grow by 20% pa.
Example: Imagine what benefits this country would be reaping if our own Keroche was not being frustrated by its own government, prompted by EABL. By now Keroche would be employing thousands and prolly have subsidiaries in Uganda and Rwanda, bringing in more money into the country.
