So today I was having a lunch of matharigo and mukimo (cow hooves and kienyeji) at Ndeiya-Kamangu's top eatery when the topic of the failed rains came up.

Ndeiya has not had a decent maize harvest since September 2017. All other rains have failed since then, with just a few seasons producing vegetables, beans and potatoes (this require a shorter duration to mature).

Sasa shit is about to hit the fan. You see some rains fell in December-January, people planted and then everything dried up. Almost everything in the shambas is lost, and since we are already in mid-March, it is unlikely any coming rains will substantially correct the situation, except for the usual beans-vegetables-potatoes harvests, which in any case will come around July at the earlist!

So what are people going to be eating until this time?

Kazi ya kibarua hakuna, na ikionekana ni Sh300 8am-12pm ama Sh500 8am-5pm.

Sasa imagine a mama with two kids living in a Sh2,000 rental house earning just Sh300 three or four times a week. That's Sh1200 max.
a week. And from that she's got to feed herself, the kids and pay house rent.

Its bad guys, very bad.

Huku kwa ground mambo siyo mazuri.

In the meantime the Chinese are salivating on Kenya Ports Authority. That excuse of a human being mortgaged it against SGR and we have people here who claim to have brains supporting his government and its policies....
Bandits....! Today the pretentious middle-class is crying foul over fuel prices even the fat toad who currently occupies the COTU chair position has written an 'unprofessional' protest letter.
The believer in spirits cum rocking chair cum most spineless opposition leader the world has ever seen is apparently sick with COVID which was diagnosed by a neurosurgeon and there people who claim to be sober who still think he can lead a country yet his own family is neither here nor there...

How much does atwoli earn per month?
His monthly salary at COTU alone is estimated to be above 5 million, compensations and allowances for attending board meetings can add up to 15 million. Atwoli estimated net worth was over 1.5 billion by 2017.

Of cxourse nobody has ever claimed that but since you want to make a silly point knock yourself out.

Fact is, poverty levels in Luo Nyanza are on another level.

When you deal with me please always cite verifiable figures such as these supported by the WHO:

Child Mortality (one year of life) Homa Bay: 57/1,000 live births.
Child Mortality (one year of life) Kiambu : 22/1,000 live births.

The difference is not because the people of Homa Bay like killing their children but because of higher poverty levels.

What explains this miserable harvest, considering that it rained from sep 2019 to June 2020, and this year hasn't been bad either? Poor farming practice? Poor seeds?
In my place, we didn't enjoy good prices last year coz the harvest was way too much.

Again, any farmer worth his name knows that you don't plant your seeds with these out-of-season rains.
