The two big purposes of licensing is;
  • Raise revenue that will be used to provide a service to the business e.g shop licenses enable kanjo to clean streets, provide street lights.....
  • Ensure only qualified / shortlisted people offer a certain good or service due to public interest or due to tariffs that protect local inustry.

Now hii license sijui ina apply wapi hapo, its a cash grab.
Then hiyo part ya registered film agent, majamaa wame create a revenue source for the who is who

Hata sikuwa nimeona the license covers a single day, 6k per day! Holy shit, if you shoot once a fortnight, the cost is a stupid 150k a year! Did this pass thru. the county assembly!

This is simply outrageous. I understand caution is necessary in these times of Al shabaab but surely who has the time to do all this running around?

With a digitized govt service all this nonsense should be put under one license . What’s with going into each and every office , police station just to take photos !

Mimi naona iko sawa, although you should do a quick shoot and run....mimi siwezi lipa
I went to Kenya railways museum hoping to take a few photos of the old trains and survey how great it would be to do outdoor portraits there. I was informed that i can only take photos with my phone. If i try kutoa hio camera kwa bag i will have to pay 3K. Then if i want to photograph a person in the premises nitalioa 3K, if its more than one person, e.g a couple, nitalipa 5K. A group of people ni 10K.

I was very disappointed since i thought that as long as i one pays the around 200 bob, then i will be free to photograph anything i found interesting about the trains outdoors. I had to settle for the phone camera a got the following images..

nilipitia route ya pale Kenya Polytechnic. coming from haile selassie, nilipita post offise nikaenda past gate ya kenya poly then pale mbele kwa junction huwa na footbrige ahead just turn right. its quite a walk to the gate. kuna mahali utafika panakaa hivi. at the end of this curve the road turns sharply to the left where you will see entrance ya railways museum
