In Togo, an attack by unknown assailants in the Savanes region killed eight soldiers and wounded thirteen others. The attack took place near the border with Burkina Faso. The militants opened fire on a roadblock of government troops and then fled. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the first recorded attack in Togo. Islamic State militants operating in the region or the al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam Wal-Muslimin could be behind the attack.
