I'll never understand this logic:

You tell me taking some particular option is wrong, you try to reason with me, I reason that you're not doing it from the goodness of your heart, so I take the option, it later bites me in the arse, I regret and want to rectify my mistake.

But since I initially refused to take your advice, now I'm not allowed to change my mind?
