Tragic Accident in Siaya: Two Teachers Die in Electrical Incident

What happened
In Sega Town, Siaya County, two teachers—Meshack Ongulu, a respected educator and church leader, and his colleague Modesta Mwakali—tragically died in a shocking accident inside a rented house. The fatal incident occurred when Modesta was struck by a live wire in the bathroom. Meshack, attempting to save her, was also electrocuted and lost his life. Earlier in the day, Meshack had left home to attend a school meeting.
Clarifying misconceptions
Initial reports mistakenly circulated that the woman found dead alongside Meshack was his wife. However, family members—including Meshack’s in-law and cousin—confirmed his wife is alive and was not involved in the accident. The woman involved was Meshack's colleague, and was apparently supplying him with slices on the side.
Who mourns them
Former students of Meshack fondly recalled his roles, including serving as Director of Somabase Preparatory Centre (where his wife, Agnes Ongulu, was a long-serving manager), teaching at St. Augustine’s Boys Boarding Butunyi, and acting as a chaplain at Bujumba Boys.
In a deeply emotional Facebook post, a family member, likely his child, shared words of grief:

“Dad, what did I ever do wrong to you? Why have you chosen to embarrass me after struggling with me and educating me? Dad, why, why, why? I don’t even know what to say, but rest in peace, Rev. Meshack Ongulu.”
