East African GDP from 1980 to present

This graphic is quite telling as it details the total economic output of a nation.

Mind you, this isn't necessarily a measure of the quality of life but rather the monetary value of all finished goods and services made within a country during a specific period and that's why Rwanda scores quite poorly being a tiny nation in that regard.

That's why then TZ and Ethiopia remain our biggest competitors due to their superior numbers in population.

What is quite telling is how national events such as the coup of 1982, clamour for multi parties in the early 90s and subsequent elections, not to forget the dark days of late 07 and early 08 affected our economy.

Lastly, Kibaki's years were quite something. May God bless his soul and those who worked alongside him in establishing our country while in power though it remains to be seen what the future holds.

The last point to note is that the creators of the graphic are based in Addis so don't discount the possibility of bias towards their country.

And since not everyone can be absorbed into the formal sector, I support @Aviator with the notion that we ought to expand and finance the TVET facilities
Indeed. White collar jobs will never be enough for everyone. You look at people abroad working in garages doing specialist jobs, others have been taught to work with engines by their fathers from a very young age and then I look at myself and others like me who haven't developed handyman skills that they could eventually monetize. You could go to a TVET and attend at least 6 months training and emerge with a valuable skill unlike 4 years in the University.

Hii kitu huwa sipendi about myself but YouTube has proven to be a great teacher especially when we had a lot of free time last year. Glad to report that I have replaced two taps, fixed a leaking pipe, a broken toilet handle (using a simple wire), replaced car oil as well as a broken showerhead among other menial jobs and the satisfaction is quite something

Ka-Dynasty banae....eti your DIY cv includes fixing a broken toilet handle?

Banae...

Some of us built our own digs, with twigs and dung, when we got cut.....so yes, that wire thing is impressive....

Post-kibaki days look better. I think coz of the dynamic duo's focus on infrastructure, financed through unaffordable loans, at a cost 10x the normal.
That is why utaskia GDP is growing, but we are getting poorer.

So by 2050 you'll be able to dig a hole for a fence post? Isorait bro. I fully understand. Kila mtoto huzaliwa na sahani yake...;););););););););)
Siko pabaya hivyo. I can do basic stuff but having the actual skillset to forego paid technicians ndio aim sasa

Kule kwa MCA kuna dude anasema without Bantus countries like Kenyanlist, er, er, er, Kenya, would be shitholes ruled by hormonal tinpot Idi Admean dictators. Growth of the Kenyan economy under two Bantus seems to bear this out....

Mimi I need to learn to work on engines. I am under the tutorship of my uncle who is very good with them. Na usiache guka akuambie hujatosha mboga. He probably writes his posts on a piece of paper and asks his nephews to type it out, the archaic dynosa.
