Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, the prime suspect in the murder of Tob Cohen, has been charged with giving false information to a police officer and swearing a false affidavit concerning the supposed loss of her passport, No. BK043532. Her arraignment follows investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which found that Wairimu knowingly misled the officer in charge by reporting her passport as missing. Based on this false report, the officer issued her a police abstract.
The investigation further established that, on the same day, Wairimu went to Pamki House in Nyeri Town, where she appeared before Advocate Muchiri wa Gathoni and swore a false affidavit asserting that her passport had been lost. Using both the police abstract and the affidavit, she then went to the Immigration Department in Nairobi and applied for a new passport, despite being aware that her original one was under investigation and in the custody of DCI officers handling the case involving her late husband, Tob Cohen.
After reviewing the findings and approving the charges, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) authorized her arraignment. Wairimu appeared before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul at the Kibera Law Courts, where she pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison. The case will be mentioned on 25 November 2025 for a pretrial conference.
