When mpesa appeared and started becoming globally recognized as kali sana, numerous countries sent teams to study its working.

Kenyans were besides themselves with national pride and glee when reports came in ati "ata wazungu wanakuja kujionea" hii earth shuttering Kenyan Innovation.

Its almost certain all those muzungus, after seeing mpesa workings and success, resolved that kind of thing should not be in the hands of nyeuthi, even in nyeuthi country.

Is possible in just a few years international payment systems will completely overshadow mpesa locally.

Because they fail to innovate and make it competitive. Being largely a monopoly, they are happy to charge big fees on transactions. If another alternative comes nahama.. Fuck national pride.

The more the players, the better for the consumer. Safaricom used to charge ksh22-25 per minute at some point before proper competition came knocking same as internet charges.

If you look at milk industry, monopoly seems to be the policy.

So mpesa may be safe because of the massive "political goodwill" it has via its mswhari/ncba link

That "political goodwill" may be sufficient to prevent international competition.

Political goodwill huwa ya muda. You can't be an obstacle of something whose time has come
