Today, Commissioner Philemon Mwaisaka highlighted issues facing Taita Taveta County residents, where he pointed out pressing issues plaguing the region. Speaking from his home in Nairobi, the Commissioner noted that despite Taita Taveta's rich resources—abundant minerals, vital river sources, wildlife reserves, and the strategic SGR route from Mombasa to Nairobi—the local community remains impoverished.

He questioned why the residents aren't reaping the benefits of these resources. Are the elected leaders truly serving the people, or is there a disconnect in how leaders are chosen? The Commissioner emphasized the need for leaders focused on development, rather than personal gain.

Unity among leaders is crucial. Instead of collaborating for the county's advancement, many are divided, competing for leadership positions. This division hampers progress and prevents the community from benefiting from its wealth.

The Commissioner urged for a shift in focus. Leaders should prioritize serving their constituents instead of chasing gubernatorial ambitions. Transparency is vital; residents deserve to know how county resources are utilized and how they can benefit the people in the region.

Taita Taveta has the potential for growth, but it requires a united front among its leaders and a commitment to the people's welfare. Only then can the county truly thrive and its residents enjoy the wealth that surrounds them.

The message was clear that it's time for accountability, and a collective effort to ensure that Taita Taveta County's resources translate into real benefits for its people.
