Hii Yao ni hekaya, Wajir county was populated with Somalis, brought by the British from Somalia as recently as in the 1950's.

HIstory says the Ogaden Somalis pushed west and displaced the Wardey who occupied most of NEP with other Oromo groups such as Orma and Borana. The Somalis took advantage of the fact that the Wardey had been decimated by epidemics and even enslaved them claiming the right to enslave them as sanctioned by Islam. Today the Wardey are a small community South of the Tana.
