Study: Alcohol, cigarette and other substance use among young people declined significantly after marijuana legalization in some states in USA. Contrary to preconceptions that the legalization of cannabis may exacerbate people's bad habits, researchers from the University of Washington found that marijuana conversely reduced the use of alcohol, cigarettes, and "painkillers" among young people aged 18 to 25.
And the National Academy of Sciences concluded that cannabis use does not lead to the initiation of heavy drug use.
