This headline is not only heartbreaking but more importantly, it is a reality check on the true state of the nation.
As August approaches, many seem to be losing their minds and obsessing about politicians (coz clearly we have few leaders)...what the Big Kahunas say, wear, post on social media, who they meet for lunch in 5* hotels to draw up plans on how to strategically place themselves and their big tummies at the table that will serve the national cake once the election is done.
On the other spectrum, millions of Kenyans are suffering. This can be attributed to many things such as delayed rains, the pandemic, Ukraine crisis etc etc but we can't ignore failed leadership as a cause/accelerant as well.
It's getting tiring manze. Even in this esteemed kijiji that discussions mostly reflect how hell bent we are conditioned to defend our preferred politicians and their ideologies than have sober discussions on what we can all do, mundu khumundu in stopping the rot.
The saddest bit is we seem not to learn, time and time again.
I was 13 when the country collectively ushered in a somewhat new dawn by dethroning Moi from the helm and we were the most optimistic people on Earth. Gains were made but then we seem to have rolled backwards and the same monkeys that ruled the jungle then are still around eager to remain in power which fair to them, are good at the game.
But here we are and as I turn 33, it's kind of a disillusionment that I might start looking at Mzeiya Jr. as part of the generation that might just usher our wonderful nation into the dispensation of a poeple-focused leadership coz what we have now in the arena is a joke.
End of rant.
