Kamukunji 15

Police officers stationed at Kamukunji Police Station have launched a crackdown on well-known electronic products scammers along Nairobi's Luthuli Avenue.Dubbed the Kamukunji 15, the team of police officers has, in the recent past, intercepted the fraudulent activities aimed at robbing unsuspecting Kenyans their hard-earned cash.In a statement on Wednesday, January 26, the National Police Service (NPS) indicated that the fraudsters thrive by conning unsuspecting customers in the guise of selling cheap TV sets. The conmen often entice the buyers with unbeatable prices and once they express interest in purchasing the products and make a down payment, the prices suddenly double....

Well done @Pamba 1

They know how much the item costs, but are greedy for an irresistible bargain.
Items will always have differing prices at retail outlets, which means customers are bound to believe whatever price is advertised. It is not unusual to find the same item going for prices that differ by a huge margin in different outlets. For one to flag the price of an item as suspiciously low, they need to conduct lots of research, which is not feasible for most consumers. Therefore, it is unreasonable to label victims greedy.

They should be establishing and explaining why it took so long to act and also interrogate what other similar daylight robberies happen on the regular in the city. Cracking down on one scam is not enough. What is needed is a system that will identify and deal with similar scams in a timely manner.
Have you reported the other scams for investigation ama you are waiting for somebody else to do it?

Why should you buy anything above 10k without window shopping?
Protecting the silly Kenyans from the greedy Kenyans.
Conmen are found everywhere, there are those who specialise in electronics like the ones on this thread and there are those that con even whole gavaments.....it is not always about greed or being naive, it is a criminal enterprise that needs to be curtailed!

Just because they have conned a small mwananchi it does not mean that they cannot con even yourselves in your own dealings, those victims are people too

I think I regaled my experience huko Kwa MCA. But a small recap:
Saw an advertisement some 6 years ago of a 'deal' went to the shop that was next to Nation center, requested the advertised TV, the guy told me it was at the store, and went for it and never came back, the second one came and asked what I wanted, told him, he called the first guy and then left, after being replaced by the third guy, after some 10 minutes wait, I left, went to Luthuli a Somali shop bought the TV at a much cheaper price and took it home.
The three guys might have either not liked my looks/money or were running an elaborate con and I didn't fit the bill.

it was because you looked knowledgeable, I also had a similar experience looking for a hard disk, I walked into three different shops, told them what I was looking for and they would leave only to bring back the same hard disk I had rejected from the first shop....I just laughed mara ya mwisho and walked away, they were trying to sell me scrap metal in the name of a hard disk. Any common man who was not too keen on the quality of hard disks would have fallen for that con.
