When Mpesa showed up, its main selling point was its agent network, deposits and withdrawals was the game. And so their charges were structured in a way such that the agent got something, and baba lao too, but its nearly decade since those days.
Ukiangalia the attached 2021 FY stats, in both volume and value of transactions, withdrawals, deposits and person to person transfers are in the minority. Sasa, swali ni, mbona transaction cost structure hasn't changed.
The biggest pain point at the moment for mpesa users is the cost. Its ridiculous that it costs the same to send money whether its to a paybill or to a person, at times bila agent kuwa in the mix
I can see mpesa has started to make changes e.g they have started the process of delinking themselves from the sim-card thru the app, but its nowhere near enough
What about banks, why are they sitting comfortably, allowing their customers to go thru a third party to pay for things like helb! Upuss
The silver lining is, with the mpesa app, the populace will get comfortable using apps to transact, then the axe will fall pap!
