Working abroad, for most Kenyans, takes many sacrifices. Many wish they could exploit the currency value differential to invest their meager earnings back home, where such monies can afford significant investments. Such investments can be substantial enough to comfortably support such diasporans should they choose to return. However, for many Kenyans working and living abroad, investing at home is riskier than dry-frying a female you just met on river-road. From relatives to friends to professionals, nobody can be fully trusted with investment monies. It seems like one diasporan man devised a clever work-around this problem, leaving a bitter she-victim in his wake. The following is the narration of the she-victim as sent to a Telegram group.
Hello Rita,
Just read your status... wanaume wakenya Majuu.
Allow me to vent or cry here hoping that another lady will learn.
Sasa I met this Kikuyu guy four years ago on Facebook. He was living in Texas.
He approached me with the same line, that as his woman I would take care of his projects.
He was putting up a rental apartment in Nyeri and a residential property in Nanyuki.
I regret to say that I was excited

Then my small business was doing very badly.
He told me that I should do this work like mine, because it was mine anyway, nikimngoja tuu afike tuoane.
He said that he was single.
He had two children with a certain woman there na wakakosana but he was living with the kids. He requested me to be their mother when he settles back to Kenya and I agreed.
Sikuona haja ya kuendelea kukaa Nairobi because my business was doing very badly and I was getting tired of commuting every weekend to Nyeri and Nanyuki.
I looked for a cheap house in the outskirts of Nyeri and moved.
Pale I was the foreman

Nilikula vumbi ya simiti sana and fights with fundis and his brothers who really didn't like me at all.
Nilikuwa namwambia he said I ignore them kama mwenye nyumba.
Every time he would promise anakuja then he says something has come up so ana post pone.
I worked there for 3 years hadi hizo gorofa nne zikaisha Nyeri town na nyumba yake Nanyuki.
I even chose the tiles for the master bedroom.
All this time mi sikulipwa coz I thought it's my project.
He only paid 8,000 for the one bedroom house that I stayed in and sent a little money for upkeep. I saved him alot of money juu mafundi wake walikuwa wanauza hadi simiti.
Sasa when the property was ready akasema atakuja tufungue...but before the agreed time akaanza kusema the baby mama anamfuata. Akasema amelose job so sasa amehamia kwake.
Kidogo akasema itabidi wakuje wote coz akikataa she will complicate his divorce process.
I shared with my friends wakasema I had been lied to but I decided to remain hapo, though the guy had said I go back to Nairobi.
Siku ya kuja ikafika.
I was so excited to meet him but alifika kwa compound in a bad mood.
The baby mama was all over him and when he could not do the introduction, she did.
She said she is his wife na akanyamaza.
She asked me who I was mi nikasema I was a girlfriend and the arrangement was akirudi tutaoana.
The woman was mad. Alipoitwa akaulizwa he said that he never told me anything like getting married and that we had never met, which was true anyway.
He said ni kazi alinipatia.
The woman screamed that most of the money in the project was hers and she was uncomfortable with me being in the compound and ordered me to leave or she would call the police.
Even the land documents she showed me were in joint names so I left.
The man called me later to explain but there was nothing to explain.
That is how I started at square one after wasting three years doing a man's work for free.
Please tell them.
If someone is not paying you, stay away from their work.
Thank you!
