NEMA Pursuing Owner Of Lorry That Dumped Rotten Eggs Into Rivers In Migori
By Allan Obiero For Citizen Digital Published on: December 02, 2021 07:02 (EAT)
The rotten eggs were discarded in Olando and Koga rivers which area residents depend on for domestic purposes and watering their animals.
The eggs, reports say, were part of a consignment of 7,800 crates, valued at Ksh. 2.7 million, impounded by Homa Bay detectives in October 2021.
The eggs were being transported in a lorry and according to Homa Bay DCI, the eggs were left in the care of KRA officers from Mbita for disposal.
According to area residents led by Margaret Otieno and Ochuodho Oracha, the incident has left them without a clean water source. Ochudho similarly underscored that the foul stench emanating from the rivers has hindered residents from living comfortably.
The residents have since asked security officers to carry out investigations and bring the culprits to justice.
Nyandoro says that his office is collaborating with the county commissioner to trace the lorry and ensure the culprits are arrested and charged in court.
On his part, Homa Bay NEMA director Josiah Nyandoro says the agency has taken samples of the water from the two rivers for chemical analysis at a government lab in Kisumu.
