Kibera to get over 3,000 houses in slum-upgrading project
The government is to put up more that 3,000 housing units in Soweto in Kibera, Nairobi, as it embarks on the second phase of the slum-upgrading project in the area.
The 3,072 houses comprising one, two and three rooms each will come with a kitchen, toilet and bathroom.
The government two weeks ago handed over 822 houses to their new owners following the completion of the first phase that was designed as a pilot project to assess the viability of the plan.

Dont believe everything you read, that is Canaan Estate, this was Raila & Kibakis project not the current governments. There is Phase 2 yet to start jst opposite the estate under 'Boma Yangu'....if you have been following what happened to the allocation on units in Pangani Area....the gazettment was only a formality but Nzioka Waita and his cronnies had allocated all units to themselves....system ya wakora!!!!Slum dwellers also taken care of.

The Ministry of Defence in 1985 bought the land (registered as LR.5875/2) from the Israeli owner Mr Samuels for Sh3.5 million. Then Moi grabbed and sold to Uchumi.
