The Somaliland Question

"Republic of Somaliland and the Fedeal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today. In the MoU, Ethiopia officially recognises the Republic of Somaliland while Somaliland grants naval and commercial sea access on lease to Ethiopia for 50 years."

The signing of an agreement between Ethiopia and the breakaway Somaliland Republic has left ethnic Somalis from Djibouti down to Eastleigh very agitated.

The only Internationally recognized sovereign Somali Government with powers to contract is the Federal Republic of Somalia with Mogadishu as its seat of Government. PM Abiy representing the Federal Government of Ethiopia cannot sign a deal with a regional state. That is a sure recipe for a conflict in HOA. I had a lot of faith in PM Abiy ability to create durable peace in the HOA. Unfortunately hopes for HOA peace and economic integration are increasingly in peril. AU’s charter forbids secessions & respects the inviolability of the territorial integrity of all member States. This is a dangerous move for the Region and the wider continent. TPLF/Meles lost big time because of such reckless adventurism. The Somali Nation & the never accept such transgression.

That should be a relief. Ethiopia was going to get access to the sea one way or the other, even if it involved using unconventional means, like war. It is unnatural for a country as big as Ethiopia to be landlocked.

Hii ni tricky even for us, sasa a strong peaceful united Somalia runs counter to the interests of Ethiopia. Ethiopia maybe focussing on the business aspect wasahau the security aspect, coz I doubt breaking up somalia would help deal with Alshabab, or maybe Abiy is better informed?
Our move sasa, tufanye madobe prez?

If peace is needed in Somalia, it should be broken up and divided amongst the various clans/coalitions.

Why force them together if they don't want to be? What is the point in having an artificial nation if it is torn apart by war? Do they want to rule over rocks and gravel after everyone else is dead from fighting?

Somaliland recognized this fact and set aside a stable and peaceful region where they could be autonomous and live their lives. Let them be. Peace and stability is more important for the lives of the common folk. It's the people who want power that create an environment of violence and chaos because the it's the vulnerable who will die but not them. Like how Garang' died to keep S. Sudan in chaos. Or how the Congo civil war doesn't seem to come to an end.

Why force them together if they don't want to be?
Fellows like Farah Maalim dream of the Somali Weyn (Greater Somalia), a humongous country that would stretch from Eritrea, taking a large swathe of Ethiopia, North Eastern Kenya and you may have noticed that lately they have advanced their territory all the way to T/Taveta (Mzungu government set their boundary at ten km north of Tana River.

Power hungry yet the know they won't be on the frontline in battle, instead ni mtu wa chini, as they scheme and strategize in their palaces got from illicit wealth

The Somaliland issues is what has driven a wedge between the Isaak and the other Somalis in Kenya, the former call Hargeisa and the surrounding areas ancestral home, and are glad it's peaceful and prosperous.

"It would be interesting to see how President HSM wriggles out of this quicksand. Apparently PM Abiy had discussed his SL intentions with HSM in Jeddah & received green lights. They then met Guelle of Djibouti to firm up the consent. What we are seeing is the culmination of a long process. Somalia is up for grabs and Abiy wants to partake in the spoils. UAE is at the center of plot. Mogadishu & most FMS are firmly in the pockets of UAE. Patriotic Somalis must rise up to the occasion & liberate their homeland from the clutches of corrupt Government. Woe unto you HSM & all mercenaries. Somalis will restore their country and dignity. "

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt issued a press release. "Egypt emphasizes the importance of fully respecting the unity and sovereignty of the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia throughout its entire territory. Egypt opposes any measures that could undermine Somali sovereignty. Moreover, Egypt underscores the necessity of respecting the objectives outlined in the Constitutive Law of the African Union. This includes defending the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of member states, in alignment with the Union's principles, which emphasize the need to respect existing borders after achieving independence and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other member states."

An enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I hear that Somalia paid these treasonous MPs $10,000 (Ksh1.5 million) each to parrot these nonsense. Kenya has its diplomatic leadership. A bunch of corrupt and rogue MPs must not be allowed to auction the country. Faarah Maalim must decide whether he is a Kenyan on from Somalia. He leads the bunch of rogue MPs.

We strongly condemn the actions of the Ethiopian government in disrespecting the sovereignty of the Somalia Republic. The said MOU is totally null and void, plus bure kabisa!!!!
