Policing

That police force needs to be disbanded in entirety and fresh people put in. All of them are rotten. No exceptions. Hata kama mmoja hajaua, they know of 10 others who have killed and thrive on bribes.

Probably not. You can change an organization's culture without disbanding it. What we need as a country is to change the mandate of police from being "fanya fujo uone" to "tutulize fujo Kabila ifanyike".

I lost a buddy last week through senseless violence. Jamaa tu wa kawaida. Now he is going 6 foot under, and the @$$holes are in demand looking forward to a long stint jail.

Can we treat each other as ordinary human beings?

First, pole about your friend. It's never easy losing someone close to you. What happened?

With the mindset of police, this, "tutulize fujo Kabila ifanyike" , can turn ugly very quickly. Even much worse than it is now. It can be a license to beat up/kill anyone in sight.

The thing with association is one picks up the habits and idiosyncrasies of those around them. So if the police is known as a bribe-taking and violent criminal organisation, the few good ones in the midst of the rotten ones would have picked up a thing or two from the rotten ones. Even if you change the mandate, the habits of old will still crop up. They already don't treat Kenyans like human beings, changing the system won't make them start.

Right now it would be easier to milk chicken than to produce a police officer who has never taken a single bribe.

With completely new people who have neer experienced the system of old, it's easier to direct them towards becoming the kind of police we as Kenyans would want; people who try to understand the situation at hand and make informed choices, not just reacting because they feel they have the power to, and nothing will befall them.

The lower cadre officers can stay, they should be easier to rein in with strict internal controls but their bosses must go, Vigilance house must come under new management.

The new IG and his deputies would have to be te cleanest, most deligent and law-loving citizens in the republic with a remit to replicate whar Hoover built at the FBI
