Elder Lister
This senior British vascular surgeon called Neil Hopper inflicted injuries on his legs and got them amputated below the knee just to claim insurance. He has now been charged with fraud.
After achieving his greedy objective of losing two legs, he approached one insurance claiming £235,622 and £231,031 from another by lying that he had suffered sepsis.
In other words he was targeting a total of £466,653, that's a cool Kshs 79,331,010, but was it worth it?
Hopper's story about losing his legs to sepsis sounded so genuine that in 2020, he was named one of the bravest people in Britain after winning the Against All Odds title at the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2020, in a virtual ceremony hosted by BBC Breakfast.
It later emerged that as a vascular surgeon Hopper had been helping his patient to get rid of their legs in order to defraud insurance companies.
It seems when he realised how his patients were making a lot of money, he decided to get rid of his two legs in order to make double.
Greed is evil. Now look, apart from losing his legs, he is also facing a jail term, and he can't practice medicine and surgery anymore.
Apart from fraud he has also been charged with encouraging or assisting in the commission of grievous bodily harm.
