Parked buses belonging to Exodus Mobility
MOMBASA, August 31, 2025 — Within just two weeks of launching, Exodus Mobility’s innovative, cashless electric minibuses—part of the “Move Mombasa” initiative in partnership with the County Government—have been forced to suspend operations on the Bamburi–Docks routes following a spate of attacks and threats. The six buses were removed from service after drivers and staff reported harassment, prompting the company to escalate the matter with Bamburi police.
Exodus Mobility Co-Founder and CEO, Kikonde Mwatela, condemned the attacks and pledged full refunds to affected commuters, while assuring a return to service “with renewed vigour.” The firm also announced a temporary fare cut—from KSh 1,000 to KSh 839 weekly—to attract ridership when services resume.
Co-founder Kenneth Kinyanjui emphasized the new system isn’t meant to drive out traditional operators, but to complement them with scheduled, reliable, and tech-driven transport. As investigations proceed, the company plans to restart operations—possibly as soon as Monday—while extending future routes to include Likoni.
