In 2022, Bruce Willis’s family announced he had aphasia, which means he was losing his ability to use language. Ten months later, doctors gave a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), a brain disease where certain proteins fold wrongly and damage parts of the brain. FTD often causes language problems, called primary progressive aphasia (PPA), but it can also affect personality and behavior.
