In what might be described as “Mission: Implausible”, detectives have put the brakes on a dazzling USD 5.6 million con job allegedly engineered by Michael Otieno Onyango and Andrew Clifford Otieno — two men who should have been made good panel beaters had they chosen the straight and narrow. Their target? An American businesswoman who, unlike their previous marks, didn’t just fall for shiny things.
The grand plan was simple: sell her 70 kilograms of “gold.” The problem? Their golden opportunity melted faster than butter on a hot frying pan. The sharp-eyed businesswoman insisted that the Ministry of Mining verify the goods - she must have heard enough horror stories.
At first, the duo nodded along like model citizens, agreeing to a government test. But when the big day arrived, they mysteriously developed a fear of laboratories - and never showed up.
The blue Mazda CX-5
Not one to be outsmarted, the businesswoman decided to flip the script and play along. The next “meeting” began with an innocent pickup at Yaya Centre and the promise of coffee. Spoiler alert: no coffee was served. Instead, she was whisked away to Rose Villa Estate, where the alleged masterminds were waiting to close the deal - and their own fate.
When their persuasion tactics failed, panic set in. Realizing their plan was unraveling faster than cheap thread, they bolted in a blue Mazda CX-5. Unfortunately for them, detectives were already in hot pursuit. The chase ended swiftly, with both suspects nabbed and their car dreams dashed.
A quick search at House 27, Rose Villa Estate, turned up two smelting machines and nineteen moulds - the kind of exhibits that suffice to seal one's fate. The glitter gang is now cooling off in custody, facing charges that could leave them wishing they’d stuck to fixing cars
The two electric smelters and nineteen moulds recovered from the house.
