I am not a Futurama fan .
I have been an eBay user since 2017. Now and then, I stumble on hardware that can be given a new lease of life, ranging from phones, laptops, MPPT charge controllers, etc. Some equipment is for resale, and others are for my own use.
This specific unit is listed as having an End of Sale Date of 2019 and an End of Support slated for mid-2026. Packaged in a small form factor fanless aluminium case housing a Broadcom dual-core CPU, 2GB RAM, and 1GB Flash Storage.
Has 2 WAN ports and 10 LAN ports, two of which are POE+ ports (POE+ not supported on the official OpenWRT image ). All ports are Gigabit speed-rated.
Since I have around 7 devices on a cabled network, the 10 ports made me do away with my D-Link 16-port gigabit switch. Since the Cisco unit running OpenWRT is highly configurable - VLAN and support for apps, for instance, Cloudflare tunnels, aria downloader, file sharing, SQM, adblocking, etc.
For anyone looking at a stable unit and good hardware, look no further. I have been running one for a couple of months without any issue, and in some instances, I made use of two service providers on the same router via two WAN ports - Multi-WAN load balancing.
FYI, the unit can either run on 12V DC or 57V DC.
Purchase cost from eBay - $8.66 ( inclusive of shipping to the Kentex, Texas address)
Freight from Texas to Kenya USD 15.
