Chilling together for decades

For decades, the bodies of fallen climbers have remained on Everest, frozen in time. In 1996, three young Korean climbers - Koo Kyung-mo, Choi Min-gyu, and Nam Won-woo - set out to conquer the peak. Just before they attained their goal, the mountain turned vicious, with a blizzard that buried many climbers that day. The trio never returned. Their families grieved, years passed, and snow covered their resting place. Then in 2017, other climbers stumbled upon them—sitting together as if still waiting for sunrise.

Their gear, their boots, even a bottle—all preserved by the mountain’s cold. For their families, the discovery was both pain and peace.

They had not conquered the summit, but they became part of it, eternal guardians of the roof of the world
