In other news, I don't see why we fuss over FGM, to a point of apportioning a national budget. Female Genital MODIFICATION should be a personal choice as long as one is over 18.
It is documented that women aged 25 to 40 in Kericho, Bomet and Narok who escaped the cut during their teenage years seek the cut secretly, mainly due to societal stigma. Research has found that the escapees are unable to fully socially participate in their communities. They cannot be their women group leaders or they are denied membership altogether on account of their being "children". Even in church they are never given responsibilities while they are given priority at the posho mill so that they can leave the "adults" to speak their things. The posho mill and the communal well is where women, especially, meet to exchange the latest news and one who is excluded can feel left out. Where they are allowed their opinion is dismissed as that of a child.
