This subject always amuses me...

Ngabu, after 50 years of devolution is when you are going to see the damage done. Counties like those in Mt Kenya region where people are more vigilant will be light years ahead. Meanwhile utaskia the old refrain: 'we have been marginalized. We need more money.' Take Turkana. It's been getting over sh10b pa for the last ten years. You wouldn't know it. Same old same old.

Even in Ukambani, the governors have tried, particularly wasinema and Kivutha.

NFD is expansive and you cannot go to every village and dig boreholes and install water purification plants, unless water is the only problem. Guy is saying 11 yrs of devolution, why the need for kuongeza chumvi? 1 Trillion? Really? We need to hold leaders accountable but the same time let's not be malicious about it. In my county, i'm not seeing any big change brought about by devolution. The glaring ones were either done by the central govt ama WB/ADB. More funds to NFD!

Wajir town benefited from devolution from what I've heard

If I became the dictator of this sorre country one of the laws I would enact is this; counties have a right to exist as long as they pay their workers, including elected officials, from monies they collect themselves.

So you won't have an MCA in wajir earning the same as an MCA in Nairobi.

Instead of the waji money going to alleviate the dire poverty situation unapata iko na waria hapa Isilii.....sad

You don't neglect a region for over half a century then expect them to pick up in only ten years with funds which was majorly cover recurrent expenditure. Thika Rd was a national project as was the SGR and the current expressway. LAPPSET itafungua hii nchi. Mbona watu wana machungu when other Kenyans are also given opportunities to develop? Are they less Kenyans? Lami wameiona tu juzi. A trip to Moyale would take days and would be a bad experience for the travellers.

By the way when did devolution start? The way somebody has arrived at a trillion shillings is the same ignorant way he imagines that that money would bring the region at per with the rest. Na tupewe calculations vile imefika a T. These figures ziko kwa mtandao.

You should find out how much of this statement is fact and how much myth.
Some of the communities such as Turkana and Pokot have refused to join peace efforts such as the Modogashe Declaration then cry of insecurity in their regions. Obviously with insecurity nothing much can happen.
The dynamics of Northern Kenya, where the poor are used as a bait like in that picture by Mullah, need someone who has stayed up there for a while to fully understand. One word MARGINALIZATION is used to tell a very fat lie.

Boss, let it go.

Otherwise you'll get a very strong lesson in history.

You wanted Jomo to build roads, hospitals and schools there when there was an active insurgency - REAL FIGHTING - going on for more than10 years? Even now, how much infrastructure (masts, police posts, schools etc etc) is being destroyed in cahoots with locals? Do you know what transpired at Garissa University, which was supposed to raise NFD's education footprint, a few years ago, again with the connivance of locals? Do you know why the Wagalla Massacre occurred?

Let's be serious bro.

Kama nchi imeshindwa na security, then it should let go of that territory. Simple. Why is the security of that place manageable now? Isn't that coz devolved funds kusaidia kupunguza ignorance? Imagine if the region had been funded kutoka kitambo?

Used as bait aje? Are you implying that their situation isn't as bad as it looks in the picture? You say marginalization is a fat lie, so which major national project has gone those sides?

Lastly, confirm to us if those figures on Millay's tweet are accurate (devolution years and funds).

You know, it kind of beats me bro.

Kenya got independent in 1963. Kenyatta ruled for just 15 years during which the economy grew in leaps and bounds. Moi then ruled for 24 years, Kibaki 10 and Uhuru 10.

During Uhuru's reign all counties have been getting their share of revenues so do away with those years. That leaves Kibaki's 10, Moi's 24 and Jomo's 15.

We all know that Kibaki took 'development' everywhere (as they say) so let's knock those out too. That leaves Jomo's 15 and Moi's 24, during which the Mt Kenya region was supposed to have marginalised EVERYBODY ELSE.

BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT DURING MOI'S 24 YEARS - 24 YEARS - THE GAVAMENT WAS POSITIONED TO DESTROY THE MT KENYA REGION ECONOMICALLY, POLITICALLY AND SOCIALLY.

All sectors from milk to coffee to tea to pyrethrum were destroyed or neglected. Bad alcohol was introduced, and gangs like the Mungiki were funded by the state (initially). Anybody who was anybody from the region who tried to speak up was destroyed (Kibaki, Matiba, Rubia, Mathenge, etc). Any businessman who started thriving was cut down (Macharia's Madhupaper, Githunguri of Lilian Tower, Ngumba of Rural Urban Credit and countless other financiers, etc)

Just how Mt Kenya then marginalised EVERYBODY ELSE is beyond me, when THREE_QUARTERS of the time it had to bear Moi's malignant rule.

We have to call this upuzi bro.
But until we confront our demons you'll hear the same shit 100 years from now - "we are poor because Kenyatta ruled for 15 years at independence"

Leta hio lesson. I'll tell you one thing that'll wipe all the fallacies you want to bring forth in the history of the region. Funding to the region has had an extremely positive outcome. If only a Kibaki had happened a decade, perhaps two ago!

The guy is from NFD, don't you think he would be in a better position to know what's happening their??
Haya shika basi from the horse's mouth, https://www.kulanpost.co.ke/over-sh...-garissa-county-ali-bunow-to-face-the-senate/
The reason you don't see change on the ground is that most counties are wasting funds and it should not be acceptable!
